Villa Description

The essence of sophisticated country living

Surrounded by beautiful Andalucian countryside

Situated on the edge of the National Park, not far from the mountain village of Gaucin. Set in its own 140.000m2 of beautiful Andalucian countryside, this ‘finca-style’ country home is the essence of sophisticated country living.

You arrive at the estate through large metal gates along a driveway of abundant greenery and olive groves. Parking at the entrance in a large gravel carport with ample parking space.

The house is accessed either via its large Andalucian courtyard - Which in itself is a wonderful resting place with a choice of seating areas, geraniums, Jazmin, running water, shade, sun, lemon trees with their fantastic lemon fragrance...The walls painted in traditional warm ochre, the floor laid in a herringbone brick pattern, water ponds and a broad covered terrace area. This is a wonderful introduction to what lies within – It is also a perfect place to enjoy breakfast and the morning sun.

Almost too good to be true

This is as unique a place as you will find

Or, you can enter via a more direct entranceway which leads into a reception hall with doors through to the living room and to the master bedroom.

The English/Spanish owners build the family holiday home of their dreams - And a dream home it is! - The interior defined by a mixture of modern and traditional elements and influences. Beautiful original art pieces and collectors’ items make this as unique a place as you will find.

All on one floor, a magnificent living room with a double-height vaulted wooden ceiling is the centre of the house. Beautifully furnished and decorated with artefact and works of art collected from all over the world, this a remarkably colourful, inviting place to gather on cooler evenings around the fire.

Here ther is also a guest WC.

Everything here is generous in size, colour, good taste

And endless views!

Along the front of the rooms, French windows open onto a terrace running the length of the house...And what a terrace – it is large enough to entertain any family gathering one could fancy. A very generous sized, square granite table, wicker sofas with welcoming white cushions, coffee tables, lanterns, potted flowers. Essentially everything here is very generous in size, colour and taste! The views, the space, the distance, the quiet...it is all amazing – And if the sun becomes too hot in the early afternoon you can roll down the cane blinds and enjoy the cool breeze. Then up again for the evenings sunset display.

Returning to the entrance hall, where one door leads to the living room – A second door takes you into the very spacious, elegant master bedroom. Twin fourposter beds, side by side and surrounded by impeccably chosen furniture: lovely armchairs, footrests, dressers, rugs in front of the open fireplace. Two doors lead off, one to HER ensuite bathroom and one to HIS! “Hers” is a walk-in shower, “His” is a shower over bath – Both are large, well-appointed and generally in keeping with the style of this outstanding home.

An explosion of colours and styles

Blissfull.

At the far end of the living room glass doors lead into a marvellous, very well equipped, modern kitchen with its own dining area. It is such a blast of bright colours, such contrasting and complementing styles, it is a kitchen that will make you want to create remarkable and wonderful meals! Or just enjoy whipping up a salad and drinks for an unforgettable evening on the adjoining terrace...access directly from the kitchen to the same west-facing covered terrace with a further dining areas, an impressively-sized semi-outdoor living space – And again, what a terrace – they do not often come like this: the size, the views, the seating, the tables...blissful!!!

From the kitchen through to an interior patio, with walls painted in white and ochre, terracotta floor tiles, the blue woodwork, the green of the potted plants, again an explosion of light and space...Complete with a lovely blue tiled water fountain and a couple of wicker chairs in case you need a moment.

From this patio three doors to three further twin bedrooms, each with its own immaculate style and taste, one decorated in light blues and pinks (with an extra childbed), one in light greens and white, one in pastel-paisley tones. All are so soothing, welcoming and inducing to long lazy mornings, it may be hard to drag yourself away. They all have equally well-appointed ensuite bathrooms(two with full baths and one with a walk in shower) and they all have lovely terraces and views.

The interior of this home is magnificent, extravagantly colourful and really a joy to the senses. But the grounds, if it is possible, are just as outstanding – Next to the house there’s a large landscaped garden area featuring a secluded, private swimming pool and a gazebo, brought all the way from Bali with this exact setting in mind, from here the views of the Andalucian countryside stretching into the distance are quite frankly awe inspiring. And of course you will find no better place from where to enjoy the full spectacle of the wonderful sunsets and night skies. There is a rose garden, fruit orchards, olive groves (some 650 arbequina olive trees), some vineyards and miles and miles of unspoilt countryside to explore.

Around and About

This is an excellent base from which to explore this delightful and very beautiful part of Andalucía.

Excursions

  • La Costa del Sol with its wealth of sandy beaches, sun, fun and nightlife is just 30 minutes away. Resort towns include Estepona (45 minutes) and glitzy, glamorous Marbella (under an hour).
  • Gibraltar, steeped in history, VAT free shops … and plenty of fish & chips is 1¼ hours away.
  • Tarifa on the southernmost point of Spain is 1½ hours from here. Looking directly across the Straits of Gibraltar to Morocco, Africa is so close you feel that you can almost touch it!
  • Beyond lie mile upon mile of magnificent white beaches on Spain's Atlantic coast, La Costa de la Luz.
  • A taste of Morocco perhaps? The fast boat from Tarifa to Tangiers takes 35 minutes, so you can be exploring the local souks in just a few hours. Fascinating and colourful, it really is a different world.
  • Spain's unique sherry wine region (Jerez and Sanlúcar), is well worth a visit, enhanced no doubt by stopping at one or two of the famous bodegas along the way! Jerez de la Frontera is 2 hours.
  • Cádiz (2¼ hours) continues to evoke the romance, intrigue and mystery of centuries of trade (some legal, some not so) between Europe, Africa and the Americas.
  • One of Europe's most important wetland reserves and bird sanctuaries, the Doñana National Park, is a popular attraction for nature lovers (4 hours). Its enormous variety of bird species include everything from flamingos to imperial eagles.
  • A beautiful road winds over the spectacular mountains to Ronda (45 minutes), with its spectacular gorge and Spain's oldest bullring, Hemmingway’s favourite town in all of Spain.
  • Sevilla takes 2½ hours. It is impossible not to be captivated by its exuberant atmosphere: stylish, confident, ancient and proud, yet also convivial, intimate and fun-loving. If you don't know what alegría means, Sevilla is the place to learn!
  • The fantastic railway between Algeciras on the coast and Ronda, to the north, stops at the little pueblo of Colmenar (20 minutes away). One of Europe’s great short railway journeys, running through landscapes which offer constantly plunging and spectacular views, this is a remarkable and wonderful way to see some of Andalucía's best and most dramatic countryside.
  • There are a plethora of beautiful white villages and hilltop towns to explore and enjoy in the magnificent countryside of the Serranía de Ronda – Jimena de la Frontera, Casares and Genalguacil to name but a few.
  • Nearby National Parks include the fabulous Los Alcornocales Natural Park and the Grazalema National Park, one of the most beautiful tracks of mountain anywhere in Europe. Jagged peaks, gorges, chasms, faults and caves, underground rivers and deep canyons are interspersed, here and there, by some of the prettiest villages in Spain, Grazalema, Zahara, Setenil and the other famous "pueblos blancos".
  • Córdoba and Granada are both 3 hours drive from here

Activities

  • Guided and self-guided walking, horse riding, mountain biking and yoga are all available in or around Gaucín.
  • The village has an excellent municipal swimming pool, a tennis court and gymnasium.
