Andalucian in Style

Perfect for both indoor and outdoor living, the very best in modern comfort is combined with Andalucian charm.

This magnificent cortijo crowns the top of its eight hectare domain with panoramic views as far as the eye can see - across the surrounding countryside, Alcornocales National Park, San Pablo de Buceite and Jimena de la Frontera in the distance.

The architecture, Andalucian in style, is perfect for both indoor and outdoor living.

The outdoor areas include a covered terrace along the front of the house - with enough seating for 20 - and a beautiful Zen garden which has a mosaic fountain, the water flowing down the central channel, creating movement and sound. While you rest on the day-bed in the covered yoga/relaxation area to one side of the gardens, the water feature cools the summer temperatures.

Full of the joys of living

A truly beautiful home of the very highest quality.

The villa and estate is easily accessed from the country road connecting Jimena de la Frontera and Gaucín. The well-maintained estate track leads to an electric gate and then a short, steep driveway brings you to a large parking area.

A traditional Andaluz wooden entrance door, a portón, opens into the Zen garden and steps lead up to the central courtyard.

The house is built around this courtyard, and on entering to the left, you come to the main living areas. You will see straightaway that this is a really beautiful home where everything is of the very highest quality.

Luxury in a glorious setting

Everything for a perfect, relaxing holiday is waiting for you, your family and your friends.

Here is a living room made for living! Winter gatherings around the open fireplace with family and friends – a room full of character and warmth, full of books and paintings, full of the joys of the good life.

Windows along the front of the house bathe the rooms in warm light and offer serene garden views.

A few steps lead up to the dining room, with its grand, round dining table, dark ochre walls, beamed ceilings and interesting original art pieces – it's a perfect place for a formal dinner.

The kitchen may be reached from the hall or the dining room. The kitchen is designed to be used and has every necessary appliance, ample space to cook, a central kitchen island to work and a breakfast counter with two stools. Just off from the kitchen is an enormous walk-in fridge. If you stock-up well enough you will not need to leave this haven, even to go grocery shopping.

There is a barbecue area which adjoins the kitchen and continues to the outdoor dining area.

From the kitchen, a staircase leads down to the basement where there is a “recreation room” an informal room with a full wall mural of a Paradise Island beach scene. Here there are books, CDs and games, a work-out area and a projector. The other rooms on this level are private storage rooms and will be closed off.

To the right of the main entrance is the hallway which leads to three, spacious double bedrooms, all with en suite shower rooms. One of the bathrooms includes a little day-bed under the window. All the bedrooms have double doors opening out onto the gardens.

On this level there is also a guest WC.

Spacious and stylish

Panoramic views of the Andalusian hills, from a bedroom made in heaven.

Upstairs is THE most spectacular master bedroom, an expanse of spaciousness and light. For your comfort is a beautiful four-poster bed with elegant  white drapes, a comfy sofa for two in front of the fireplace, book shelves, high beamed ceilings, picture windows and ooh those panoramic views again!!

An archway goes through to a dressing room with wall to wall wardrobes and the en suite bathroom, complete with double washbasins, freestanding bathtub, walk-in shower and again, oh the views! This bedroom has its own private terrace with two sun loungers and cane sun-covering. Stairs take you down to the gardens.

Seeing is believing

Perfect harmony, there's nothing to disturb the peaceful and rural seclusion...

Back down to the inviting courtyard, with its central fountain, beautifully manicured trees, potted plants and plenty of shady places to sit. Traditionally, in Andalucía, inner courtyards were used as the main gathering place because of the comforts they offered: air, light, privacy and tranquillity and these can certainly all be found here.

To the right of the courtyard, a covered walkway gives access to a further two double bedrooms, both with en suite shower rooms and all opening directly onto the courtyard.

The third room is a utility room with a washing machine, a dryer and the heating system.

Picture-postcard perfect!

Along the front and side of the house is a verandah with the stupendous views, a shady spot to enjoy a barbecue or to dine al fresco.

The long, wide, colonnaded terrace (including a barbecue area adjoining the kitchen) runs the full  length of the house and is genuinely delightful. Looking out across the gardens to a picture-postcard landscape, it's the most serene and peaceful setting imaginable, a perfect setting for outdoor meals with lots of space for family gatherings.

Everything about this property is stunning, but the pool is magnificent! In its own terrace, just a short distance from the house, the pool is in an outstanding natural setting, glittering under the Mediterranean sun ... it is simply irresistible. There are enough sun loungers for everyone and there is also a small pool house with a table and chairs, a fridge for cool drinks and a WC. The  views from the pool stretch far across the surrounding hills.

The gardens are impeccably maintained throughout the year. A velvety lawn at the front of the house slopes down to the pool. On one side are borders of plumbago and rosemary, a profusion of scented jasmine, beautiful flowering shrubs and mature trees: olive, orange, lemon, jacaranda, pomegranate, mimosa. It's completely private, deliciously green and so calming.

The countryside around and about is superb too. To the south, the little country road winds gently down to San Pablo and then on to Jimena de la Frontera. To the north, the road takes a stunning route over the mountains to Ronda, passing by Gaucín on the way. The villa and its estate is between the Mediterranean Sea and the well-known pretty 'white villages' los pueblos blancos, so there is plenty to explore.

Around and About

This is an excellent base from which to explore this delightful and very beautiful part of Andalucía.

Excursions

  • La Costa del Sol with its wealth of sandy beaches, sun, fun and nightlife is just 30 minutes away. Resort towns include Estepona (45 minutes) and glitzy, glamorous Marbella (under an hour).
  • Gibraltar, steeped in history, VAT free shops … and plenty of fish & chips is 1¼ hours away.
  • Tarifa on the southernmost point of Spain is 1½ hours from here. Looking directly across the Straits of Gibraltar to Morocco, Africa is so close you feel that you can almost touch it!
  • Beyond lie mile upon mile of magnificent white beaches on Spain's Atlantic coast, La Costa de la Luz.
  • A taste of Morocco perhaps? The fast boat from Tarifa to Tangiers takes 35 minutes, so you can be exploring the local souks in just a few hours. Fascinating and colourful, it really is a different world.
  • Spain's unique sherry wine region (Jerez and Sanlúcar), is well worth a visit, enhanced no doubt by stopping at one or two of the famous bodegas along the way! Jerez de la Frontera is 2 hours.
  • Cádiz (2¼ hours) continues to evoke the romance, intrigue and mystery of centuries of trade (some legal, some not so) between Europe, Africa and the Americas.
  • One of Europe's most important wetland reserves and bird sanctuaries, the Doñana National Park, is a popular attraction for nature lovers (4 hours). Its enormous variety of bird species include everything from flamingos to imperial eagles.
  • A beautiful road winds over the spectacular mountains to Ronda (45 minutes), with its spectacular gorge and Spain's oldest bullring, Hemmingway’s favourite town in all of Spain.
  • Sevilla takes 2½ hours. It is impossible not to be captivated by its exuberant atmosphere: stylish, confident, ancient and proud, yet also convivial, intimate and fun-loving. If you don't know what alegría means, Sevilla is the place to learn!
  • The fantastic railway between Algeciras on the coast and Ronda, to the north, stops at the little pueblo of Colmenar (20 minutes away). One of Europe’s great short railway journeys, running through landscapes which offer constantly plunging and spectacular views, this is a remarkable and wonderful way to see some of Andalucía's best and most dramatic countryside.
  • There are a plethora of beautiful white villages and hilltop towns to explore and enjoy in the magnificent countryside of the Serranía de Ronda – Jimena de la Frontera, Casares and Genalguacil to name but a few.
  • Nearby National Parks include the fabulous Los Alcornocales Natural Park and the Grazalema National Park, one of the most beautiful tracks of mountain anywhere in Europe. Jagged peaks, gorges, chasms, faults and caves, underground rivers and deep canyons are interspersed, here and there, by some of the prettiest villages in Spain, Grazalema, Zahara, Setenil and the other famous "pueblos blancos".
  • Córdoba and Granada are both 3 hours drive from here

Activities

  • Guided and self-guided walking, horse riding, mountain biking and yoga are all available in or around Gaucín.
