Villa Description

Magnificent views

Views extend from the pretty white village, beyond the dramatic Crestellina Ridge to the Mediterranean and Africa beyond.

This top-quality modern apartment is part of a recently completed private development (which comprises six luxury apartments and two houses in total) in the centre of lovely Gaucín village.

All on one floor, it has three bedrooms and is the largest of the apartments in the little complex.

Communal facilities include a gorgeous swimming pool and secure underground garage parking.

Its location, in the heart of the village, is difficult to beat. Gaucín is one of the classic and most beautiful of all the pueblos blancos commanding sweeping views over Gibraltar to the Rif Mountains of Morocco across the Mediterranean Sea.

South facing, the apartment takes full advantage of the magnificent, panoramic view which unfolds in front of you.

Warm and welcoming

Design and layout are clean and crisp. White predominates with dark wood and colourful fabrics offering attractive contrast.

One enters to the main (80 m2) open-plan living area, a huge and very welcoming space, its design and layout clean and crisp. White predominates with dark wood and colourful fabrics offering attractive contrast.

One end contains a thoroughly modern and well equipped kitchen area with a comprehensive stock of electrical appliances (American style fridge/freezer, washing machine and drier, dishwasher, gas hob and electric oven) and plenty of uncluttered working space.

Beyond, to the left, is a large dining table which comfortably seats eight, with the sitting area to the right. Comfortable sofas and easy chairs are gathered around an antique wooden coffee table in front of the large woodburner (logs are provided) and the 32" flat screen TV/DVD player.

As everywhere in the apartment, furnishings and finishes are of excellent standard.

The terrace is a great spot

Light floods in from sliding glass doors which lead out to the terrace and that wonderful, panoramic view.

Light floods in from the sliding glass doors which lead out to the terrace and to that magnificent view.

Partly under cover and partly enjoying the sunshine which lights up the beautiful vista from dawn until dusk, the terrace is a great spot for eating out on long summer nights, taking in the view over the village roof tops to the castle (floodlit at night) and the dramatic Crestellina Ridge rising up from the surrounding hills.

Ever changing, it's a view that is always inspirational.

There are three bedrooms, all of them leading off from the lounge. The master, double bedroom has direct access to the terrace, a king-sized bed and an en-suite bathroom (with both a large bath and a separate shower).

Extra touches

Everything has been designed to provide a beautiful living environment with lots of extra touches which will make your holiday complete.

A twin bedroom (the beds can be joined together if required) also has access to the terrace. This shares a bathroom (with a large walk-in shower and which can also be accessed directly from the lounge) with the third bedroom which has a double bed and windows looking to the street. Both bathrooms have under floor heating.

There are lots of extra touches which will make your holiday complete: everything has been designed to provide a beautiful living environment. Heating and air conditioning (in the lounge and master bedroom) and double glazed windows ensure year round comfort. One is struck by how beautifully quiet the apartment is, just one of the benefits of the excellent insulation. Wi Fi internet access is provided. The house manager lives nearby and is on hand for meeting and greeting, local information etc.

And then there is the gated swimming pool, shared with the other apartments in the development, which is large, inviting and surrounded by a terrace with sunbeds, a pool shower and fridge.

Gaucín is spectacularly situated in the mountains behind the Costa del Sol in the Serrania de Ronda. There are fabulous views at every turn. With a population of 2,000, its narrow streets house four supermarkets and a traditional butcher, an organic food shop, banks (cash points) and a pharmacy.

Within walking distance of the apartment are a variety of restaurants and tapas bars, one of which hosts regular flamenco performances.

Set against the backdrop of the Ronda Mountains, you will enjoy, depending on the time of year, a brilliant palette of colour: red poppies, yellow mimosa, wild orchids and the pale pink of almond blossom. Whether you want to explore the wonderful nature and first class hiking, discover the culture and traditions of historic Ronda, or enjoy the beaches and golf courses of the Costa del Sol, there's something here for everyone.

Beautiful Mediterranean beaches are only 30 minutes away by car. The wilder, white beaches of the Atlantic coast, on the Costa de la Luz, are about 1½ hours drive away.

Around and About

This is an excellent base from which to explore this delightful and very beautiful part of Andalucía.

Excursions

  • La Costa del Sol with its wealth of sandy beaches, sun, fun and nightlife is just 30 minutes away. Resort towns include Estepona (45 minutes) and glitzy, glamorous Marbella (under an hour).
  • Gibraltar, steeped in history, VAT free shops … and plenty of fish & chips is 1¼ hours away.
  • Tarifa on the southernmost point of Spain is 1½ hours from here. Looking directly across the Straits of Gibraltar to Morocco, Africa is so close you feel that you can almost touch it!
  • Beyond lie mile upon mile of magnificent white beaches on Spain's Atlantic coast, La Costa de la Luz.
  • A taste of Morocco perhaps? The fast boat from Tarifa to Tangiers takes 35 minutes, so you can be exploring the local souks in just a few hours. Fascinating and colourful, it really is a different world.
  • Spain's unique sherry wine region (Jerez and Sanlúcar), is well worth a visit, enhanced no doubt by stopping at one or two of the famous bodegas along the way! Jerez de la Frontera is 2 hours.
  • Cádiz (2¼ hours) continues to evoke the romance, intrigue and mystery of centuries of trade (some legal, some not so) between Europe, Africa and the Americas.
  • One of Europe's most important wetland reserves and bird sanctuaries, the Doñana National Park, is a popular attraction for nature lovers (4 hours). Its enormous variety of bird species include everything from flamingos to imperial eagles.
  • A beautiful road winds over the spectacular mountains to Ronda (45 minutes), with its spectacular gorge and Spain's oldest bullring, Hemmingway’s favourite town in all of Spain.
  • Sevilla takes 2½ hours. It is impossible not to be captivated by its exuberant atmosphere: stylish, confident, ancient and proud, yet also convivial, intimate and fun-loving. If you don't know what alegría means, Sevilla is the place to learn!
  • The fantastic railway between Algeciras on the coast and Ronda, to the north, stops at the little pueblo of Colmenar (20 minutes away). One of Europe’s great short railway journeys, running through landscapes which offer constantly plunging and spectacular views, this is a remarkable and wonderful way to see some of Andalucía's best and most dramatic countryside.
  • There are a plethora of beautiful white villages and hilltop towns to explore and enjoy in the magnificent countryside of the Serranía de Ronda – Jimena de la Frontera, Casares and Genalguacil to name but a few.
  • Nearby National Parks include the fabulous Los Alcornocales Natural Park and the Grazalema National Park, one of the most beautiful tracks of mountain anywhere in Europe. Jagged peaks, gorges, chasms, faults and caves, underground rivers and deep canyons are interspersed, here and there, by some of the prettiest villages in Spain, Grazalema, Zahara, Setenil and the other famous "pueblos blancos".
  • Córdoba and Granada are both 3 hours drive from here

Activities

  • Guided and self-guided walking, horse riding, mountain biking and yoga are all available in or around Gaucín.
  • The village has an excellent municipal swimming pool, a tennis court and gymnasium.
  • For golf enthusiasts, there are at least 25 top quality golf courses (including Finca Cortesin, Valderrama, Sotogrande, and San Roque) within 50 minutes drive.
  • On the coast (both the Costa del Sol and the Costa de la Luz) there’s every beach pursuit imaginable, from sailing and windsurfing, diving and snorkelling to whale and dolphin watching.
