Villa Description

Surrounded by acres of parkland

The villa has panoramic views across the Genal valley to the Straits of Gibraltar.

This truly superb villa is set in seven acres of natural parkland with views to the Gibraltar Straits and Africa beyond.

From the moment you walk through the front door you realise this is not a regular holiday home. The understated style and comfort is unbeatable, every detail has been carefully considered – designed to be the owner's own luxury home – every piece of furniture is hand picked to fit just so with the next.

The colour scheme of warm and natural colours combined with open spaces and full length windows make the living areas of this property the most spacious, light and bright you could ever wish for. And surprise, surprise it's found at the end of a country track, just a few kilometres outside of Gaucín.

A paradise of peace and calm

The south-facing living room, with double-height windows filling the house with natural light and sunshine.

Your journey to this beautiful house ends in a grand circular drive surrounding a pretty fish and lily pond. Pass through the entrance door and into the hall, leading to the amazing south-facing living room.

The living room is enormous with several "ambientes", an open fire place, a 60” interactive TV, Roche Bobois sofas and soft carpets for extra comfort.

This room opens onto the covered terrace furnished in the same delightful style and design. The terrace has ample dining, lounging and relaxing areas and an impressive built-in barbecue. High ceiling fans on the terrace keep you cool when dining al fresco on hot summer nights.

Sublime space

Spacious rooms in neutral shades whisper peace, calm and quiet.

The state of the art kitchen is nothing less than spectacular. Tastefully decorated and extremely well equipped, for anyone who likes to cook, this kitchen is a dream.

There is a large, black marble work island with plenty of counter and cabinet space, all modern appliances, and well thought out design. What a pleasure to spend time here preparing a meal for family and friends, a meal to be enjoyed together on the terrace or in the elegant dining room. The terrace on this side of the house, complete with gazebo/canopy, can be accessed from the kitchen or the dining room, an ideal place to take breakfast while enjoying the early morning light and sounds of nature all around.

On this floor there are two en suite bedrooms. The first is a twin bedroom, whose bathroom has a shower over a full bath tub. This bedroom has a ceiling fan and faces the entrance side of the house.

The second bedroom is a double bedroom, one wall of which is wall to wall window with access to its own private area of the front terrace and enjoying the same spectacular views.

Both bedrooms have wall to wall wardrobes finished in the finest quality. All the bathrooms are finished in beautiful Italian white marble.

There is a guest WC on this floor.

What a wake up!

The superb master bedroom has spectacular views to the Mediterranean.

Upstairs leads to the pièce de résistance - full of light, decorated in tones of beige and white - the most luxurious master bedroom. The room has ceiling to floor windows on two sides with views across the green valley, taking in the rich landscape of alcornoques and encinas ... to the twinkling sea in the distance.

This room was designed with only luxurious rest and relaxation in mind, everything is inviting: the cool, white marble floor, the linen curtains blowing in the summer breeze, the king-sized four poster bed.

And then there is the en suite bathroom which is a feature in its own right. The views from the jacuzzi, set in a bay window, look to the east and the rising sun. For those who prefer to shower there is a walk-in shower too. The wc and bidet are behind closed doors.

Keeping children entertained

Upstairs are more bedrooms and a TV room for younger guests.

Other upstairs rooms are:

An airy twin bedroom, originally designed as the owner's study, two sides of the room have ceiling to floor windows. This is the only bedroom in the house that does not have blinds, so blackout curtains have been provided to ensure a true 'lights out' experience.

A 'kiddies room' with a small bunk bed and two cots next to which is a TV room set up with PlayStation, DVDs etc. This TV room is ideal for children to spend their quiet time or a (rare) rainy afternoon. These upstairs bedrooms do not have a designated bathroom.

A luxury "indoor-outdoor" pool

While the setting is rural there is nothing 'rustic' about this beautiful villa.

Downstairs on the lower ground floor are two more twin bedrooms, sharing a walk-in shower room and another double room with en-suite shower room

On this level, another "pièce de résistance" - the specatacular, 12 meter, indoor-outdoor swimming pool. One of the best we have ever seen. The restrictions of the Natural Park do not allow pools to be built in protected areas. The owners have overcome the restrictions by building a glass-fronted pool room. As a result you have the best of both worlds and the best for all seasons. You can swim at Christmas in a heated pool and catch the winter sun through the glass. In summer the front can be opened, your sun loungers just a few feet away on the terrace or a couple of steps down to the large lawned area in front of the house. And when you tire of swimming and sunbathing you can play a game of table tennis or darts. For safety this pool room can be locked and closed off from the rest of the house.

This spacious holiday villa is beautifully designed and tastefully decorated throughout. The views are extraordinary and while it's very private, it's not far from Gaucín - a five minute drive or a 30 minute walk if you don't mind the hill.

Gaucín is a delightful mountain village and it's worth spending time exploring its whitewashed streets, church and the ancient 'Eagle's Castle'. It has a variety of restaurants, cafes and bars so you'll never be short of options if you decide to eat out. Gaucín has all the facilities that one needs for a villa holiday eg small supermarkets, cash machines, post office, pharmacy etc.

Being set in natural parkland, the location is perfect for walking, birdwatching, horse trekking. For a more lively type of action, the beach is easy to get to, only a half hour drive. In the opposite direction inland, a day's excursion to Ronda is a must. A forty minute drive through unforgettable countryside brings you to this iconic town.

Around and About

This is an excellent base from which to explore this delightful and very beautiful part of Andalucía.

Excursions

  • La Costa del Sol with its wealth of sandy beaches, sun, fun and nightlife is just 30 minutes away. Resort towns include Estepona (45 minutes) and glitzy, glamorous Marbella (under an hour).
  • Gibraltar, steeped in history, VAT free shops … and plenty of fish & chips is 1¼ hours away.
  • Tarifa on the southernmost point of Spain is 1½ hours from here. Looking directly across the Straits of Gibraltar to Morocco, Africa is so close you feel that you can almost touch it!
  • Beyond lie mile upon mile of magnificent white beaches on Spain's Atlantic coast, La Costa de la Luz.
  • A taste of Morocco perhaps? The fast boat from Tarifa to Tangiers takes 35 minutes, so you can be exploring the local souks in just a few hours. Fascinating and colourful, it really is a different world.
  • Spain's unique sherry wine region (Jerez and Sanlúcar), is well worth a visit, enhanced no doubt by stopping at one or two of the famous bodegas along the way! Jerez de la Frontera is 2 hours.
  • Cádiz (2¼ hours) continues to evoke the romance, intrigue and mystery of centuries of trade (some legal, some not so) between Europe, Africa and the Americas.
  • One of Europe's most important wetland reserves and bird sanctuaries, the Doñana National Park, is a popular attraction for nature lovers (4 hours). Its enormous variety of bird species include everything from flamingos to imperial eagles.
  • A beautiful road winds over the spectacular mountains to Ronda (45 minutes), with its spectacular gorge and Spain's oldest bullring, Hemmingway’s favourite town in all of Spain.
  • Sevilla takes 2½ hours. It is impossible not to be captivated by its exuberant atmosphere: stylish, confident, ancient and proud, yet also convivial, intimate and fun-loving. If you don't know what alegría means, Sevilla is the place to learn!
  • The fantastic railway between Algeciras on the coast and Ronda, to the north, stops at the little pueblo of Colmenar (20 minutes away). One of Europe’s great short railway journeys, running through landscapes which offer constantly plunging and spectacular views, this is a remarkable and wonderful way to see some of Andalucía's best and most dramatic countryside.
  • There are a plethora of beautiful white villages and hilltop towns to explore and enjoy in the magnificent countryside of the Serranía de Ronda – Jimena de la Frontera, Casares and Genalguacil to name but a few.
  • Nearby National Parks include the fabulous Los Alcornocales Natural Park and the Grazalema National Park, one of the most beautiful tracks of mountain anywhere in Europe. Jagged peaks, gorges, chasms, faults and caves, underground rivers and deep canyons are interspersed, here and there, by some of the prettiest villages in Spain, Grazalema, Zahara, Setenil and the other famous "pueblos blancos".
  • Córdoba and Granada are both 3 hours drive from here

Activities

  • Guided and self-guided walking, horse riding, mountain biking and yoga are all available in or around Gaucín.
  • The village has an excellent municipal swimming pool, a tennis court and gymnasium.
  • For golf enthusiasts, there are at least 25 top quality golf courses (including Finca Cortesin, Valderrama, Sotogrande, and San Roque) within 50 minutes drive.
  • On the coast (both the Costa del Sol and the Costa de la Luz) there’s every beach pursuit imaginable, from sailing and windsurfing, diving and snorkelling to whale and dolphin watching.
