Villa Description
The journey to this villa from the coast has you climbing high into the Sierra Bermeja. The landscape is wooded and mountainous, there's a different vibe from the coast, it's quieter, more peaceful and naturally beautiful. Mediterranean oaks soften this landscape, which although dry, is still delightfully green. Huge eagles circle overhead, they're a majestic and not uncommon sight on the drive inland to Casares.
A well maintained dirt track from the main road goes down 3.5 km into a wooded valley to the house. Down it goes, to where a little river is shaded with bamboo and eucalyptus.
Electric gates open to a concrete drive which has plenty of parking space. The owners bought the house in 2007 and since then, they have completely renovated it to be a house of superb quality and style.
The front door delivers you to the central part of a HUGE expanse of living area. The whole space is dominated by the mighty sloping ceiling beams and grand windows on two levels.
The living area is two storeys high and is looked down into from seven steps. There is an imposing enamel chimney hood for the open fire which, along with the Samsung flatscreen TV (and Sony DVD player) is the focus of the living room. There is plenty of space for everyone as the L-shaped sofa seats 8 - 9 and the love seat takes 2. French windows look out to a patio which has four armchairs, a coffee table and a sofa, all for relaxing and soaking up the sun. This patio terrace leads, by steps, to the outdoor swimming pool.
Sliding doors from the interior dining room lead to a spacious balcony/dining terrace (shown here). The dining table seats six but extra tables can be provided to seat up to 22. There is a gas barbecue on hand as well as a brick built one. This dining terrace overlooks the pool and has direct access to the gardens down five steps to the patio terrace outside the living room (mentioned above). It's all south facing and this terrace has the same cupola-themed ceiling and sound speakers for music for your barbecue party.
From the lounge terrace, there are 16 rustic steps down to the large, octagonal swimming pool, all bordered with flowering shrubs and yucca palms. The pool terrace is paved and has a wooden sun deck. Seven sunbeds are shaded by a chunky wooden cabaña roofed in cane. On the boardwalk to one side of the cabaña are six more sun-loungers shaded by an orange tree. Thatched sunshades and a matching table are conveniently placed for sipping poolside drinks. The jacuzzi is to the side of the swimming pool as is the shower. The gardens and pool are lit at night. What could be more romantic than a garden walk on a hot summer evening?
The swimming pool (10 x 10 m, 1.5 m deep) can be gated if requested in advance of arrival. The owner has facilities for fencing in the pool if you have little ones and need that extra peace of mind.
To the left of the front door are the bedroom suites. There are six bedrooms in the main house, one is the bridal room (1) on the second level, four are on the first level (2 - 5) and one (6) is downstairs from the living area. There is also a self-contained apartment which sleeps six. Along the corridor is a long cupboard set in the wall, it's a mini library! Also along the corridor is a small cloakroom with wc, handbasin and a horizontal length mirror. Opposite this cloakroom is a store for the ironing facilities and a view to a small courtyard dominated by a mimosa tree and a little bubbling fountain.
Let's start with the four bedrooms on the first level.
Bedroom 2 is a double bedded room just off the living room. It has en suite bathroom facilities of a shower, basin and wc. Bedroom 3 is white, but with grey and pink accents in its soft furnishings. This room has a sloping ceiling with square, exposed beams, a king-sized bed and black chaise longue.
Bedroom 3 has direct access to the garden, with a view from the window to the garden lawns and the small dining patio below. Hidden behind what looks like a wardrobe door is a small en suite shower room, all in perspex, white and gleaming (it does not have a wc though). An internal door takes you to bedrooms 3 and 4.
Bedrooms 3 and 4 are virtually identical. Both have king-sized beds, with direct access to the dining patio and lawns. The rooms have built-in wardrobes, an armchair, two bedside cabinets and a large wall mirror. These bedrooms share a bathroom situated between them. The bathroom has a full bath tub with shower over, wc and twin basins all in a contemporary style.
Bedroom 1 is the bridal suite situated off the living area, up a further four more steps to the second level. There is in effect, an interior balcony to the door of this bedroom.
The whole suite is tastefully decorated in black and white. The black wrought iron, four-poster bed is softened with filmy muslin curtains and faces an open fire, flatscreen TV and white dressing table and mirror. Sunlight bathes the whole room. Behind the bedroom area is the bathroom with a pristine white circular bath, big enough for two, with an expanse of perfect mirror on the wall behind. There is also a walk-in shower and two hand basins with a lit mirror. The wc has its own separate room in the suite.
Downstairs from the living area on the ground level is bedroom 6 to the main house. Bedroom 6 has a king-size bed and an en suite bathroom with bath, sink and wc. It has access to a private terrace which features a giant cactus.
Also on the ground level are the suite of rooms which form the self-contained riverside apartment.
The main bedroom in the apartment has a super king-sized bed, and its decor is modern but with a rustic feel. The room has built-in wardrobes and bedside cabinets. The en suite bathroom has a full bath tub with mixer taps, heated towel rail and square, contemporary hand basin and wc. All the fittings gleam like new.
There is direct access to the pool by sliding glass/wooden doors which lead out to a small sun terrace with two small chairs. The apartment also has its own garden and terrace with dining table (seating for six) and lounge chairs.
The apartment living room (shown here) has a double bed with a good-sized sofa (which can convert into a double bed if necessary). The bathroom has a walk-in shower, twin basins with mirror above and wc. The washing machine and tumble dryer are in this bathroom. The living area has a TV with a computer and monitor available for guests to use. The dining table seats four.
The fully equipped kitchenette has twin sinks, coffee machine, kettle, microwave, 4-ring ceramic hob, dishwasher, all cutlery and crockery needed, fridge freezer and saucepan storage.
As mentioned earlier, the villa has a jacuzzi and an outdoor swimming pool. It also has an indoor pool shown here. Both pools, indoor and outdoor are heated by solar power, the indoor pool is set at a luxurious 28c so swimming is possible even in winter.
The indoor swimming pool, sauna and fitness room are housed in their own building (with air con/heating), a short distance through the trees, from the villa. The pool is 3 x 12m and 1.5m deep. Aromatic oil and salts are provided for guests using the sauna. The fitness room has two exercise machines, radio/cd player, hand weights and towels. The annexe also has a shower and wc, an exercise bike and hifi system.
Guests are please asked to replace the pool cover when they have finished swimming, to reduce the humidity for the benefit of the cane ceiling. The building has a wooden veranda overlooking the river.
To the right of the front door is the dining area which has a chunky refectory table taking pride of place. It seats eight in plushy, comfy dining chairs and faces a white dresser full of glassware. Above the table is a cupola ceiling with those distinctive exposed beams. To one side is a desk with office and computer facilities.
The kitchen in the main house leads off from the dining area and like the rest of the house is smart and of top quality. The black granite worktops contrast sharply with the white units. The kitchen is divided from the dining area by a breakfast bar with six high stools. There is a hefty American-style fridge freezer with ice-making facilities, four-ring induction hob, microwave, electric oven, dishwasher, two toasters, kettle, coffee machine, juicer and pots and pans galore.
The guesthouse is ideal to rent together with the main house and apartment when holidaying with family or friends. Although on the same estate, it's totally private and only 20 metres from the main house.
It has a stylish living room with a fireplace, and open-plan kitchen/diner. The guesthouse has its own access, a garden with mature fruit and avocado trees, a private covered terrace with barbecue, dining table and lounge chairs. Through the garden and the driveway it has direct access to the swimming pools and garden of the main villa. It has its own parking.

This villa is one in which to enjoy the great outdoors to its sunniest maximum. There are plenty of facilities for eating al fresco with no less than three gas barbecues for guests to use. The terrace outside the living room has three steamer chairs and a small table for four, perfect for a breakfast while looking out at the beautiful garden. The big lawn is wonderful for children to play on and a volleyball net is provided for grown ups who want to play too.
The house has air conditioning which starts automatically when someone enters a room. There is internet service throughout the house and the signal allows for wireless music transfer to the outdoor pool and upper terrace. You can have all your favourite music while enjoying your outdoor barbecues. Garden maintenance is discreet, the gardener will agree a time convenient with the guests so as not to disrupt their peace and relaxation.
The villa is perfect for just resting and taking time out. But should you want to see more of the region, the location is pretty convenient for that too.
The beaches of the Costa del Sol are close by, the nearest beaches are at Manilva and Sabinillas which has a Blue Flag for cleanliness.
Other attractions of the Costa del Sol include first rate golf courses, the lively centres of Marbella and Málaga and the wide choice of delicious Spanish seafood dishes, as fresh as can be.
The nearest town to the house is the authentic, whitewashed village of Casares under ten minutes' drive away. You'll find plenty of cafés, bars and restaurants there, mostly serving traditional fare at reasonable prices. Casares has been in existence since Moorish times, if not longer, and it is worth a visit just for itself. The pretty, winding and narrow streets are what Andalucía is all about. For local colour, the street market is every Friday.
Further afield, but easy to get to, is Hemingway's Ronda, that iconic Spanish 'city of dreams'. To the west of Ronda is the Sierra de Grazalema and los pueblos blancos, an area of natural beauty . If you're feeling more adventurous, how about a day trip to Morocco? Ferries leave from Tarifa, Algeciras and Gibraltar. The fast ferry from Tarifa will have you in Tangier in half an hour.
All in all, there's so much to do for visitors of all ages. Your holiday can be whatever you want it to be.
