Villa Description

A very special place

"Where to begin - it was such a good time! We arrived home rejuvenated, full of inspiration and memories that will last far longer than a sun tan. Pure bliss".

One of three superb villas on a wonderful, 10 acre countryside estate, this exquisite property is, like the others, completely private and self-contained with its own entrance, driveway, gardens and swimming pool.

All are splendid properties but this is the most outstanding of all, spacious and beautifully appointed.

Accessed by a quiet country lane, it is just ten minutes west of Ronda in the beautiful Llano de la Cruz valley. To one side are spectacular views of the Sierra de Ronda, and on the other, a beautiful vista of fertile, undulating farmland.

Features of the estate include extensive landscaped gardens, mature orchards of olive and citrus, walnut and almond, quince and medlar, as well as a beautifully maintained garden surrounding each villa. There is also a vegetable garden, fish pond and a fountain.

Magical

"Words cannot express. The finca is beautiful, the surroundings fantastic, the hospitality warm, genuine and so welcoming. The perfect vacation".

There is a little train that does occasionally pass by the villa heading on its way through the magical and stunning countryside to Algeciras - well worth experiencing. Other than this though, there's nothing here to disturb the absolute peace and harmony.

The villa is completely hidden from the others by graceful trees and greenery.

Its own extensive, landscaped and lawned gardens are a real delight, colourfully planted with a wealth of flowers, shrubs and mature trees. They feature an irresistible 15 m x 6 m swimming pool with an ornamental fountain.

In such beautiful surroundings, a relaxing holiday is never going to be a problem here!

Extensive terracing surrounds the villa, providing a seamless link between the interior, the exterior dining areas and the beautiful gardens beyond.

A serene paradise

"We have stayed in villas in Tuscany, Provence and the Cotswolds, but none impressed us as much as this one. We give this serene paradise both thumbs up and a strong recommendation".

These include a shady, furnished patio for al fresco dining which looks out to the pool and the rear gardens, perfect for those candle-lit dinners with the sun setting in a blaze of blue and pink beyond the trees.

All four upstairs bedrooms have french doors opening to another large terrace on the first floor, offering more views of the countryside all around.

Inside, it's a spacious (around 420m²) and beautifully appointed family home which functions superbly as one moves from one space to another, its top-quality kitchen very much at the heart of the home. The splendid kitchen / diner is appropriately equipped with absolutely everything you could wish for.

With views across the rear gardens and pool, it features a six ring, double-oven range cooker, two fridge freezers, and a dishwasher.

The immaculate dining table at the other end of the room comfortably seats ten. French doors open to the covered dining terrace outside.

The huge and very stylish sitting room alongside is bathed in light. Sun kissed pastels, natural terracottas and lusty earth tones combine both rustic and sophisticated influences from Europe and Africa to create a room of character and comfort. There is satellite TV, DVD, a music system and iPod / iPhone docking as well as an extensive library of DVD's.

Relax and enjoy

"A delightful place to relax. It's quiet and secluded, yet centrally located amid the region's major attractions".

One of the attractive bedrooms is downstairs, a double which can be made up as two singles if preferred. A bathroom (shared with the childrens bedroom upstairs), the laundry room and a guest cloakroom complete the ground floor distribution.

The villa has overhead fans in all rooms to keep you cool during the summer months and there is WiFi internet access throughout the house.

The other four bedrooms (three double bedded and a childrens twin room) are on the first floor. Each enjoys countryside views and access to the large upstairs terrace. The double bedrooms all have en-suite bath or shower rooms.

Thoughtfully and attractively furnished, all bedrooms in the villa have duvets and electric blankets, offering warmth as well as comfort.

The master bedroom is vast and beautifully appointed, with its super king sized bed almost lost within the room's 90 square metres! It leads through to an equally impressive, luxury en-suite bathroom (with an extra large bath, bidet, separate shower and double basins).

A wonderful stay

"The most relaxing days we've ever had. We felt very welcome. Thank you so much. We had a wonderful stay, loved it".

Just ten minutes from this haven of rural peace and tranquillity, Ronda, known to locals as the "The City of Dreams" has a fascinating history and a character to match.

An ancient hill town, it straddles the almost vertical, extraordinary Tajo Gorge which plunges to a depth of more than 150 metres.

The oldest part of the town, the original citadel fortress of the Moors, lies to the east of gorge, a labyrinth of winding streets with ancient mansion houses, churches and enchanting little squares. There are breathtaking vistas from many of the bars and restaurants out across the gorge to the surrounding mountains.

The newer part of the town began to grow when the famous bridge was finally completed at the end of the 19th century. This is a bustling area of small shops, bars and restaurants and the site of Andalucia's most famous bullring.

What a fun filled holiday!

"The villa, pool and grounds are all beautiful and have provided the perfect setting for us. We had the best time we could ever have hoped for".

To the east of the town is the pristine Sierra de la Nieves National Park, recently declared a Unesco Biosphere Reserve, and to the west is the Grazalema National Park, a really beautiful mountainous area, home to some of the most diverse flora and fauna in Spain. A series of pretty, traditional pueblos blancos are all within easy driving distance. The walking and bird watching here are amongst the best in Europe.

So, there's plenty to do around and about. Whether you want to explore the wonderful nature, breathtaking vistas and first class hiking of the National Parks, discover the culture and traditions of historic Ronda, explore the enchanting villages or maybe venturing further, to Sevilla or the coastal resorts of Puerto Banus, San Pedro and Marbella, there's something for everyone.

Whichever direction you head off to, one thing is for sure: you will be returning to one of the most comfortable and relaxing properties in Spain. One that perfectly combines modern, convenient living with traditional Andalusian charm.

For two or more families wishing to holiday together but wanting a degree of independence from one another, the property can also be rented in conjunction with one of the other two villas on the estate.

Around and About

This is an excellent base from which to explore this delightful and very beautiful part of Andalucía.

Excursions

  • For trips out, you are spoilt for choice. Hemingway's favourite town in all Spain, Ronda, with its extraordinary gorge dividing the old and new quarters, is just 15 minutes away. With its mansion houses, quaint narrow streets, museums and art galleries and Spain's oldest bullring, it is well worth visiting.
  • La Costa del Sol with its wealth of sandy beaches, sun, fun and nightlife is an hour further south from Ronda. It's a very spectacular trip, too, crossing up and over the Sierra de las Nieves before descending to glitzy, glamorous Marbella and a very different world!
  • Here you are on the doorstep of the Grazalema National Park, one of the most beautiful tracks of mountain anywhere in Europe. Jagged peaks, gorges, chasms, faults and caves, underground rivers and deep canyons are interspersed, here and there, by some of the prettiest villages in Spain - Grazalema, Zahara, Setenil and the other famous "pueblos blancos".
  • On the wide, blue waters of the Embalse de Zahara (it's a reservoir but you would never know), you can swim or just enjoy the beautiful views all around from one of the little bars which open up in summer on the lake shore.
  • Take the dramatic little mountain road from Zahara which climbs high into the mountains and on to Grazalema. From here you can head west, crossing right over the magnificent sierras, thickly forested with cork oak and Spanish fir, to Arcos de la Frontera on the other side.
  • For something completely different, Sevilla takes less than 2 hours. It is impossible not to be captivated by its exuberant atmosphere: stylish, confident, ancient and proud, yet also convivial, intimate and fun-loving. If you don't know what alegría means, Sevilla is the place to learn!
  • Spain's unique sherry wine region (Jerez and Sanlúcar), is well worth a visit, enhanced no doubt by stopping at one or two of the famous bodegas along the way! Jerez de la Frontera is 2 hours.
  • Cádiz (2¼ hours) continues to evoke the romance, intrigue and mystery of centuries of trade (some legal, some not so) between Europe, Africa and the Americas.
  • Beyond lie mile upon mile of magnificent white beaches on Spain's Atlantic coast, La Costa de la Luz.
  • Córdoba and Granada are both 2½ hours drive from here.

Activities

  • There are few better places in Europe than the Sierra de Grazalema to enjoy walking and hiking. We recommend "Walking in Andalucía" by Guy Hunter-Watts which includes six fabulous walks in the nearby countryside. The wonderful mountain terrain is equally facinating for twitchers, especially for spotting the big raptors. There are various guide companies in Ronda offering everything from one day caving adventures to hiking and bicycling trips.
  • The adventurous may want to try their hand at hang gliding or paragliding from Sierra de Lijar, just up the road at Algodonales. The village recently staged the World Paragliding Championships and is home to a number of paragliding schools with courses for beginners as well as tandem flights.
  • Horse trekking can be arranged at local stables.
  • Bicycle hire is easily arranged in Ronda. There are excellent cycle ways in the area including the Via Verde which runs along an abandoned railway line as well as far more challenging tracks for mountain biking.
  • Different water sports are on offer on the Zahara lake. Swimming is also possible at a number of secluded coves along the lakeside.
  • There is no more thrilling way of viewing the Ronda mountains than from a balloon. End your once-in-a-lifetime flight with a champagne breakfast overlooking Ronda’s old town.
