Villa Description
Just below the classic pueblo blanco of Gaucín, this hugely impressive and very stylish villa combines luxury and comfort with charm and idyllic tranquility. It's a wonderful holiday home.
For starters, it is located in one of the most beautiful situations imaginable. On the southern slopes of La Sierra del Hacho, it enjoys a splendid vantage point high above the Rio Genal valley.
Views are spectacular, to the Mediterranean Sea, the Rock of Gibraltar and across to the Rif Mountains of Morocco beyond. All around, the majestic scenery of the Serranía de Ronda provides brilliant brush strokes of colour and contrast. A view which can be enjoyed for ever.
Such a location deserves something very special and the villa doesn't disappoint. Accessed along a farm track (an easy kilometre's drive) from the country road which winds up from the coast to Gaucín, electronic gates open to its 4 acre estate and the 200 metre driveway which takes you up to the house and it's covered parking bays to the side.
The first thing that strikes you is just how peaceful and serene everything is.
Completely private, the terraces all around are richly planted with mature fig, olive and pine trees. Birdsong fills the air, the pool glistens gloriously blue in the sunshine and one marvels at the breathtaking view which opens up in front of you. It's one of the most seductively peaceful and relaxing settings imaginable.
It's also immediately evident that this recently built villa with its pool and surrounding gardens exude excellent taste and imaginative style. Before entering the house one has to linger by the gorgeous walk-in pool with its neatly gravelled, palm planted surrounds. Comfy loungers beckon from the sun terrace alongside.
You just know that this is where you are going to spend much of the holiday!
But … it gets better and better! The villa has been designed, finished and furnished with creative flair, style and excellent good taste, with everything being of the highest quality.
The huge split-level, galleried living / dining room is a joy to behold. It has a wonderfully uncluttered feeling of space and serenity and is exquisitely furnished with a mix of both modern contemporary and antique pieces, many of them from Morocco.
At one end, comfy leather sofas and an armchair are gathered around a large Moroccan coffee table. At the other end of the room the lovely old wooden dining table nestles in front of an open log fire.
Original and imaginative works of art and antique furnishings offers bright splashes of colour here and there, revealed by soft lighting against high white walls. Throughout the villa, furnishings have been carefully chosen and creatively placed.
Double doors open from the living room to a wide, arched and covered terrace with comfortable cane sofas and easy chairs. Looking due south and making the most of the wonderful countryside views, this is another place to spend many a happy hour. A railed stairway also connects this terrace to the pool area.
The kitchen (with another good sized dining table in the centre) is fully equipped with all mod-cons including an eye-level oven and grill, an American style fridge-freezer, five-ring gas hob, microwave, dishwasher, washing machine and dryer.
Sliding glass doors open to a second covered terrace overlooking the pool. With its gas barbecue and dining furniture this is a perfect place for al fresco dining.
An external staircase leads down to the third, lower terrace (part shaded, part sun terrace) which extends out to the pool and gardens beyond. Another stairway connects to the terrace alongside the living room.
There are two bedrooms on the ground floor: the king-sized double is a beautiful wooden one. Double doors open to a balcony and the splendid views. The second bedroom also looks out across the countryside, this time from its twin Japanese futon beds.
Both bedrooms share a beautiful marble bathroom with walk-in shower (no bath).
The master bedroom suite is upstairs. Delightfully furnished, it also has a massive king-sized double bed (2.00 m x 2.00 m) and spacious en-suite bathroom (with walk-in shower). It doesn't miss out on the views down the valley either!
At the other end of the house, there's a lower ground floor (at pool and garden level) which accommodates a fourth bedroom, with a double bed and en-suite shower room. This can be accessed by stairs from the entrance hall on the floor above, or directly from the pool terrace outside.
Other features include central heating throughout, air conditioning in each of the bedrooms and fast internet connection.
No expense has been spared and it shows!
Gaucín, just three kilometres away, is one of the classic white village of Andalucía, as pretty as a postcard. Its narrow winding streets, hidden alleyways and spectacular views have long been an inspiration for painters and photographers. For a village of its size it has an excellent selection of restaurants and tapa bars.
Being just three kilometres from the house it's possible to walk to and from the village. A very pleasant walk, too. But please bear in mind that it's all uphill so, whilst the return leg won't tax you unduly, the less sprightly might find it a little bit of a struggle on the way there. But if there's a cold beer with your name on it waiting for you ...
The mountain countryside of the Natural Parks which surround Gaucín is ideal for walkers, birdwatchers and nature lovers; there are lots of fascinating little villages and hilltop towns to explore.
A drive north over the spectacular mountain road will quickly bring you to Ronda with its spectacular gorge and Spain's oldest bullring.
The Mediterranean's Costa del Sol is just 30 minutes away, the beautiful beaches of La Costa de la Luz a little further, a 90-minute drive from here.
Perhaps you will be tempted to try a taste of Morocco - the fast boat from Tarifa to Tangiers takes just 40 minutes.
Great fun, something totally different … but maybe you will prefer to watch Africa from afar, from right here at this delightful and very beautiful villa.
