Villa Description
The jewel of La Sierra de Aracena.
If you search in the Spanish dictionary for the word Alhaja (silent h), it tells you it is a precious object, a jewel, a treasure, a gem.... And here we have the village of Alájar which is all of these things, it really is a treasure.
Away from the busy tourist routes, in the heart of the Sierra de Aracena, Alajar has kept all its welcoming Andalucian charm.
And in this wonderful setting our English hosts found the place they chose to call home. On the very edge of the village, enjoying the best of the country but still just a stroll away from all this village has to offer
They started with one fabulous rambling old house and once that one was perfect, they continue to buy and rebuild the next two houses in the street. ..making up a cluster of houses, that can be rented independently or as a whole for larger groups.
This was once a humble little village house, the smaller of the three it does not have a pool, but it has space and terraces enough to be very comfortable for a family of 6.
Entering from the street you immediately appreciate the effort and care that has been taken to make this into a genuinely inviting holiday home!
The house is on 3 levels and has been fully refurbished into a very comfortable, bright, contemporary home:
From the street the door opens into the large entrance hall with double - height ceiling and a spectacular, combined wood and metal, staircase that does take centre stage. Here there are chairs to rest, book shelves to browse, a large mirror and a desk for any last minute notes to be made..
Directly in front a door leads through to the first double bedroom with en-suite shower room and a private covered terrace. Everything is neat and well designed.
Steep stairs down to a lower ground floor with an open plan kitchen, living and dining room - Again here you can appreciate how well planned this house is, although a relative narrow building, the sense of space and light is impressive. The kitchen is a fully equipped working kitchen with all high quality appliances.
The dining table has seating for six and there are two comfy leather sofas in the living room. From where glass doors lead out onto a spacious ground floor patio, complete with table, chairs, benches, shade and a BBQ. On this ground floor there is a 3rd bedroom with a small en-suite shower room – although this room is an interior room and does not have direct light there is a light tunnel that is incredibly effective!
Taking the stairs up from the entrance hall leads to the top floor and master bedroom, again with en suite shower room and its own private terrace and spectacular views of the valley, Ribera de Alájar and over the roof tops to the church steeple and clock tower.
Walking out from the front door you can go left into town, and just a short walk to a, very nice, 25 meter municipal pool. Or left, and left again, out of town into some of the best walking country in Spain. People travel from far and wide to hike in this land.
