Villa Description
It is hard to believe that just 40 years ago this was a small farm dwelling, dedicated to the growing of melons and the herding of goats - both activities very fitting to this area, where the summers are long and dry and the land is mostly dedicated to dry-land framing: olives, almonds, figs...This farm prospered as it has the good fortunate to enjoy a generous supply of fresh water from the well that is still in use today.
A few rooms on the ground floor are all that remain of the original Cortijo – an enchanting, tiny, traditional living room – furnished and decorated in a style totally reminiscent of this, not so distant, past – the cozy sitting room, the dinning room and the one downstairs bedroom with low, beamed ceilings and dark terra-cotta floors.
The later-day renovations and additions to the old farm have converted this into a spectacular country home full of all the delights and comforts of country living.
From a large parking area at the front of the house, surrounded by lush potted plants, one enters a small glass conservatory-style entrance – where wood is stored for the winter months and a bench is available in the hope that we will still follow the tradition of removing our work shoes before coming into the comfort of the home, on into a second hall and directly through the main double doors into the living room. A small room with low beamed ceilings – two long comfy sofas arranged around the fireplace and decorated with wonderful pieces of art collected by the owner over the years.
To the left of the entrance, one step up to a small dining room with panoramic windows along the length of the outer wall. This room is just big enough to comfortably accommodate an elegant, solid wood, dinning table for 10.
To the immediate left of the entrance door, in the continuation of the conservatory style extension is a wonderful, work inspiring, study. Full of light and complete with desk and reading chairs you can easily imagine this to be the ideal place to catch up on all those, so important, things that you have put of until having a moment of peace and joyful solitude!
Directly in front of the main entrance, through an archway, to the left one enters what was the original kitchen and now has been converted into a museum-like sitting area.
In this room the essence of the old house has been kept true to character, dark wood beams, white washed ceilings and walls, dark wooden shelves with a few pieces of traditional kitchenware, two low chairs in front of a small fireplace. All that is missing is the farmer and his family gathered round discussing the days work in the "campo".
A few steps up and one enters the “modern day” kitchen, a lovely light room decorated in bright blue with all modern appliances, ample work space – a breakfast table, seating 6 and over the sink a long window with panoramic views across the landscape.
Adjoining the kitchen there is a very convenient laundry room.
From the kitchen area a short passageway leads to a garage with 2 extra fridges and plenty of storage space.
Back to the archway at the bottom of the stairs, the left leads to the kitchen area and the right to the only downstairs bedroom. This room is a charming, cottage style bedroom with an inviting, old-fashioned brass bed, low beamed ceilings... and one small step up to a very modern “open plan” full bathroom – the WC is hidden discretely away behind closed doors.
The steep stairs to the upper floor, gated and with a hand rail, fork at the top. Three uneven stairs to the left, take us to another charming, little double bedroom, simple and white with a tiny window looking out over the tiled roof top – but don't be fooled, this room comes complete with all mod cons. The TV is hiding in the cupboard and the modern en-suite shower room is hiding behind the low door at the side of the room reached by three, quite high, steps.
Turning to the right, two stairs up to the landing, a spacious area from which several rooms lead off – The first door on the left, a few steps up, a spectacular master suite - It is wonderful, you could well spend your holiday here, you don't need anything else - directly in front two lush black leather armchairs with matching foot stools surrounded by windows – to the right a small kitchenette, kept out of sight behind cupboard doors - A low counter divides this area from the FULL bathroom, including a jacuzzi, a shower and a sauna.
At the other end of the room is the king sized bed, plenty of cupboard space and double glass doors opening onto a private furnished terrace with exterior stairs down to the pool area – What more could you ask for!
From the landing there is a short passage way that leads to two “family rooms”, each consisting of a bedroom with a standard double bed, bunk beds and a high wooden platform that accommodates another double mattress- bedding enough for 6 - we would recommend 2 adults and 2 children could sleep here comfortably. Each of these rooms has an en-suite shower room.
Also on the landing is a full bathroom with shower over bath.
A wooden staircase takes you up to a mezzanine/loft sitting area, with low slopping, beamed ceilings and small windows catching the light from every angle. This room has been designed for quiet and relaxation, with armchairs, sofas, bookshelves, a perfect place to read, watch a movie or perhaps a game of chess....
This house besides being a lovely home, on many different levels, it is also considerate to people with mobility problems – For those who are not happy with the steep steps up to the first floor - There is an elevator from the entrance directly onto the upstairs landing – from here you do still have to deal with a few steps – but just a few and you are in the Master Suite!
"All in all, a really lovely place to stay and we hope to return before too long. An amazing experience".
The interior is wonderful... the exterior phenomenal!
Choose a spot to rest and relax, to wine and dine, to read and lounge, to swim and sun. You will not want to leave (or even go back inside).
You have the private, furnished terrace belonging to the Master bedroom, down the outdoor staircase brings you to your first choice of outdoor dining – to the side of the house, close to the kitchen and shaded by an electric awning you can choose sun or shade, depending on the time of day, year or your mood.
The gated pool, irregular in shape, is 14 meters long and 5 wide. It is in its own little area, enclosed by walls, fences, rocks. On the lower level is the pool, surrounded by many sun lounger with sun or shade to chose from - a few steps up to an appealing pavilion that creates a luxurious outside space with long benches covered in comfy, white cushions and round tables draped in long white tablecloths... candlelight at night will complete the scene for a very special event or for just your everyday very special holiday evening.
Next, under a beautiful old oak tree, a hexagonal cane covered gazebo. Alfresco dining is great but cooking outside is even better and this is the perfect place to enjoy a leisurely evening meal grilled on the BBQ just a few steps away.
Or if you want to be away from the “crowd” there is a little table for two discreetly waiting for you. Not to mention the front lawn and the endless countryside to explore.
Although this is a self contained holiday home, it is part of a larger working farm. To the back of the land steps lead down to stables, and general farm buildings. You are welcome to visit the horses and possibly even get the opportunity to ride. There are also chickens (fresh eggs) rabbits, partridges..The children will love it!
