If you are looking for something over and above, this elegant country house offers beautiful accommodation and more.
The villa is a luxurious blend of styles, the combination of discreet good taste and the colourful exotic works wonderfully.
With easy access from the coast road and the pretty pueblo blanco of Gaucín only 2kms away, the location of this glorious villa is perfect for a relaxing, Spanish holiday. The property is gated, surrounded by open, wooded countryside and set in landscaped gardens.
The garden vista is absolutely stunning, there’s no other word for it. With south facing views to the Mediterranean and Straits of Gibraltar, on a clear day the Rif mountains of Africa seem to float on the horizon. Rising in the east, the sun stays in the garden all day until it sets in the west.
This is a not just a grand country house, this is a grand country home. The owners are passionate about their house and no expense has been spared for its beauty and comfort.
The kitchen is colourful. It's tastefully furnished with everything a keen cook may want, all of the very best quality. It's the real heart of the home.
One entrance to the house is through large, wooden double doors into a dining patio with a distinctive Moorish feel. The tinkling fountain, the stone cobbled floor, palm tree, lamps and divan seating all lend itself to a courtyard in Morocco. The dining table seats fourteen comfortably amid the myriad of flowers and the rambling monstera. This atmospheric patio is a lovely place to eat on a summer’s night, the stars are overhead and the breath of a warm breeze blows from the Sahara across the sea.
The kitchen is a living space in its own right with a flat screen tv, open fireplace, sofa and coffee table. With its exposed chestnut beams, terracotta floor and chevron tiles, it really has a country kitchen feel. The kitchen leads out onto the Moroccan-style kitchen patio, ideal for serving meals al fresco.
The view from the garden terrace is one of joy and delight. Look out over the sea and pick out the boats on the horizon.
The kitchen has a magnificent Britannia double oven range cooker, large fridge/freezer, double sink with marble surfaces and all the appliances you would expect. All good country houses have a dresser for crockery as well as a large dining table, and this house is no exception: its dining table seats eight and the turquoise dresser is full of pretty china. With all its superb facilities, this is the homely heart of the house.
Beautiful lawned terraces are set on three levels. On the lower lawn is an octagonal summer gazebo, cushioned and comfortable for a peaceful hidey-hole. Take your book or tablet down there (good Wifi extends throughout the house, pool area and gardens) for some private time. Take afternoon tea under the parasol (the square dining table on the terrace seats eight) and look out over the lawns down to the sea, which at this time of day is a sheet of pure gold.
The gardens have been designed for flowers all year round. The interior has been designed for comfort and luxury.
This country residence sits in 2 hectares planted with olive, oaks, palm and large carob trees offering shade. Flowering shrubs add colour to this quintessential southern Andalucian landscape . As well as mature trees, the grounds are lush with many varieties of plants, all is green and gorgeous. Smell the roses, hear the sound of the leaves in the wind, the buzz of bees and birdsong, you can’t fail to be at peace in this private Eden.
The French doors from the garden terrace lead directly into the living room. With its book-lined shelves of leather-bound classics, antique furniture and air of understated opulence, it has the feel of an archetypal English country house. Two three-seater sofas and one two-seater sofa are arranged around a coffee table with the focus on an open fireplace. The whole room is spacious, elegant, welcoming and warm, both in colour and temperature. There is a stereo with iPod connection to the speakers, both in the living room and the kitchen and a writing desk for setting up your laptop (if you have to work) taking advantage of the Wifi.
Off the kitchen is the scullery with a double sink, dishwasher and another large fridge freezer. The larder and cleaning cupboard are housed here. There is direct access to the outside from the scullery close to the car parking area. There is a freestanding barbecue, of a camping variety, for use in the kitchen patio. There is also a proper outdoor barbecue built in the patio adjacent to the pool house.
The master bedroom is on the ground floor. Luxurious is the only way to describe this dream of a bedroom, with its grand, marble surrounded bath, walk-in Moorish style shower and twin basins with a large mirror. The room comes complete with its own flat screen tv, king size bed, bedside tables and writing desk. A large open fireplace is a focal point although there is full gas central heating throughout the house for cooler months. This bedroom has the benefit of air conditioning. A dressing room with masses of wardrobe space is located off the en suite bathroom. An entrance hall also gives access to the master bedroom so late night returners needn’t disturb the rest of the house. Both bedroom and bathroom have direct access to the garden.
Decorated in neutral tones, the inside of the house is classic and calm.
The hallway from the garden terrace is dominated by the terracotta staircase which spirals up in one curve to the first floor bedrooms. The simplicity of the design is beautiful but as one side is open, it would not be suitable for small children. Access to the stairs can be closed off by keeping the doors to the kitchen, hallway and living room shut. The master bedroom is on the ground floor while all the other bedrooms in the main house are upstairs.
The ground floor bathroom is off the hallway. It’s a delightful little space with a distinctive oriental touch. The walk-in shower has a Moorish arch with a traditional hammam-style brass sink. With its marble surfaces and the decor all done out in cream, the whole effect is sumptuous. The hallway leads into the living room by double doors on one side and the kitchen on the other.
The crisp, cotton sheets are inviting and cool. Sneak off for a little siesta, you know you want to.
All the bedrooms are en-suite and beautifully decorated and are very appealing. The beds have high quality bed linen, pillows and mattresses.
There are two bedrooms on the first floor:
The Blue Bedroom can be both a double or twin bedded en suite room with the most peaceful feeling you could wish for. The bathroom has a full bath with a garden view, sink and wc.
There is an open fireplace set in the corner. The decor in cream and pale blue is airy, tranquil and calming. With its smart bathroom, Juliet balcony and lovely china, it’s a very pretty place to sleep.
The Large Double Bedroom next door to the Blue Bedroom has a king size bed and an open fireplace. The room is large enough for an armchair, wardrobe, chest of drawers and bookshelves, its space is magnified by the pitched ceiling and exposed beams.
Every bedroom has a view over the gardens, either with a balcony or terrace. Wake up refreshed and rested.
The bedroom has an en suite bathroom with a full-sized bath, wc and washbasin. From this bathroom a door leads to a private terrace, a delightful suntrap for that extra tan. This secluded hide-away terrace is facing south west for those evening sunset colours and has a sun umbrella, round table and seating with cushions.
The terrace is also the access to the bathroom which shared with the Large Double Bedroom. This delightful little sun trap has a circular table, chairs and parasol.
“A huge thanks and congratulations on such an impressive house! We will be back! “
Comfort and Enjoyment are included in the price! You will discover plenty of other extras to make your holiday really special.
There is ample space for parking at the end of the paved drive up to the house. The house itself is covered in masses of roses, blue plumbago and pink bignonia, it’s so pretty, especially in the autumn and springtime. The gardens have been specially designed for a maximum flower show all year round and the variety of planting is a gardener’s delight. There is even a vegetable garden for guests to pick seasonal produce. How fresh is that!
Next to the house is the wide patio terrace with a cane shaded veranda covered with grape vine and with scented rambling roses up the wall. The terrace is a delightful place to relax all day, it has a summer day bed, deck chairs and a divan seating area with a handmade mosaic table and bespoke mosaic floor detail.
This lovely house comes complete with a welcome hamper containing provisions for well deserved snacks on your arrival.
One guest commented “Thank you to the owners for this bit of heaven. Our family loved our time in Gaucín in this house that engenders good times.”
The lovely swimming pool and adjacent self-contained pool house have their own private gardens.
There are three ways to get down to the pool area. You can walk through the garden terraces and down by steps and a walkway. There is access by walking down the drive. The other way is from the front of the house down some 40 steps. Given the number of steps to reach the pool, this villa is not suitable for guests with mobility difficulties.
The pool and pool house are set in their own gardens at the bottom of what resembles a big, grassy bowl. It’s all very private and secluded amidst trees and flowering shrubs. Two hammocks swing in the trees, and sunloungers and parasols are provided for whiling away lazy, sunny afternoons by the water.
“The teenagers made the casita their home.” said one guest.
With a barbecue poolside, chilled wine in the ice bucket and the laughter of family and friends, this is precious time.
The pool is a grand 12 by 5 metres and the water is accessed by a wide ledge-step. Little ones (or not so little ones) can sit on the ledge and dabble their feet without committing to a total dip. The pool is lit at night for romantic, night time swimming. There is a table tennis table for the more energetic members of the group along with exercise equipment in the side room of the pool house. A barbecue is situated on the pool patio.
Under the shade of a majestic carob tree is a circular stone table (seats 14) ideal for entertaining. A barbecue dinner is so easy with the built in barbecue by the pool house. What could be better on a summer holiday than a poolside barbecue, listening to the splashing of family and friends having fun!
Cosy and comfy in a private retreat, with the pool right outside your door.
The pool house sleeps two and is a self-contained apartment built in the Moorish style. It has its own drive off the main drive to the big house. This pretty little casita is a piece of Morocco, with its turquoise fretwork, arches and divan-style lounging areas. The entrance has a day bed, made comfortable with colourful needlepoint cushions, rattan armchairs and table for relaxing while looking out onto the pool.
Inside, on a raised dais, is a double bed. A woodburner, pouffes and wall hangings make the whole interior colourful and cosy while ceramic plates and wrought iron artefacts complete the Moorish theme. The casita has a well-equipped kitchenette with a four-ring gas hob, granite work tops, microwave, fridge and kettle.
The bathroom is very pretty too, with its walk-in shower and arabic-style tiles and accessories. This little house is so cute, perfect for a couple or perhaps a nanny, it’s absolutely delightful.
Fiestas, flamenco and centuries-old traditions ... Spain has a proud culture of colour, passion and life!
Just five minutes’ drive up the road is the delightful pueblo blanco of Gaucín. It has just about all the facilities you will need for a villa holiday: small shops, a chemist, banks and bars and several restaurants which are a cut above the usual. Gaucín has a lively fiesta calendar and if you’re lucky enough to be in town for one of them, you’ll be guaranteed an authentic Spanish experience as a souvenir.
The longest day is celebrated in Gaucín as with many towns throughout Andalucia as the fiesta of San Juan on 23rd June. Gaucín gets in on the act with its own colourful fiesta at the beginning of August and holds another fiesta in honour of Santo Nino in early September. There’s nothing sober and sombre about these ‘holy’ days as any excuse for a party is met with enthusiasm.
Other activities available are horse riding, walking and bird watching. The mountain terrain is home to more than a few species of birds of prey. The town takes a great deal of interest in bird life and a lot of the streets have wall plaques with bird identification paintings for you to get to know your feathered friends.
Gaucín is well known for having a thriving artists’ community and there are usually exhibitions of local work taking place. Painting courses are available if you wish to tie in your stay with a learning activity.
Whether you walk, ride or climb or just relax and breathe it in, the countryside around and about is absolutely beautiful.
Ronda, Jerez, Cadiz and Sevilla are all within reach for day trips. Experience the romance of old world imperial Spain in these cities. Be amazed at the architecture, the proud horses, the haughty flounce of flamenco. There are so many layers of culture to indulge in: history, museums, music, art and gastronomy and each one an absolute delight.
Mediterranean beaches are half an hours’ drive away; the Atlantic coast with its fine white sand and famous wind surfing at Tarifa is one and a half hours’ drive.
There is so much to do in this region of Andalucía, the choices are endless. There’s one choice that’s easy enough though, a day spent relaxing and doing as you please in your lovely villa home.
