ZC10 Spectacular villa in Ronda

Málaga, Ronda Mountains, Gaucín

At the foot of the spectacular Tajo de Ronda

Landscaped olive groves surround this villa which has in its sights Ronda - balancing on the edge of the monumental, sheer cliffs of the gorge, El Tajo.

.. this is a house you will never want to leave ..

holiday_villa_andalucia_spain_zc10_4

Built at the foot of the famous Ronda Gorge, the villa is surrounded by acres of landscaped olive groves. You are led along a gravel drive-way fringed by cypress and olives up to a parking area, towered over by a beautiful, old palm tree. The house is accessed through an electric gate.

Parking here you can walk to the front or the rear of the house … either choice will lead you into this cool, calm universe. Most likely you will not use the main entrance often, entering directly from the front terrace into your choice of kitchen, living, dining or sitting room.

The style of architecture is Andalucian with a distinctly Moorish inspired flavour – warm, welcoming and inviting … this is a house you will never want to leave.

Utter hush . . .

The quiet and unspoilt countryside make this villa the perfect place for a relaxing holiday.

The main entrance is at the back of the house, through a robust double door into an entrance hall.

To the right of the main entrance, through into a hallway that leads to the kitchen, the dining room, the living room, the cosy area around the open fire place – this area acts as the heart of the house. All rooms are open plan, interconnected by wide arches. The general ambience is spacious, light and tasteful – natural earth colours with touches of reds and ochres. The decor is demure and discreet, with an elegance in proportion, the attention to detail and the quality of the materials.

Throughout the villa craftsmen have exploited to the maximum their ability and the qualities of their ‘tadelakt’ (polished/rubbed concrete). The floors throughout the house are a combination of tadelakt and terracotta, with occasional touches of arabesque design cement tiles.

Switch off your phone and take in all the wonders of Andalusia: great food, good wine, culture, history and tradition.

‘Tadelakt’ is a traditional craft often seen in the hammams and bathrooms of riads in Morocco. It has a soft, undulating, natural character. It has been used to good effect in the bathrooms of this villa to finish the baths, showers, basins and floors. In the kitchen all the surfaces have this polished cement finish.

The kitchen is a large open plan room, designed to be used. All the work surfaces, the centre island work area, the shelves and the floors have a polished cement finish that complements the pearl grey of the wall tiles. This is a functional, well equipped kitchen, but if you prefer to use the barbecue, it is just outside the door leading to the terrace and garden.

The dining area is the perfect space for eating as a group with its large, square wooden dining table, and south and east windows which face the wisteria-covered terrace. Connected to the kitchen, and with two small interior windows bringing together the dining area and living room, this is the ideal venue for any gathering, regardless of which room you are in, no one will feel excluded from the get-together.

The living room is decorated in the light, natural colours of the rest of the house, with its two wide, inviting sofas and colourful cushions. It is comfortable and spacious with south-facing windows and French doors leading to the covered porch area.

Stunning views and wonderful sunsets

"The location is absolutely perfect! the views are stunning as are the sunsets."

At the other end of the living room, across the open hallway, there’s a cosy open-fire area with built-in sofas on either side. This spot is for cooler winter evenings, a snug place to sip your nightcap and recall events of the day.

An open staircase leads up to the ‘Tower’ master bedroom, bathroom and dressing area. This is a gorgeous, light, white room with high, vaulted ceilings and fantastic 270 degree views. To the east the town of Ronda balances on a sheer precipice near the mouth of a 390-foot-high gorge. Imagine the picture – monumental cliffs with the tiny toy town leaning precariously on the edge of the Tajo; the view is nothing short of spectacular.

A paradise for anyone who enjoys the good life...

... and good wines too.

From the villa to the west, the views are over the olive groves, sprawling vineyards and up to the Descalzos Viejos winery that dates back to the 16th century, originally built as a Trinitarian monastery.
And to the south, the amazing vistas out over the valley are said by some to be “one of the finest views in the world.”

But back to the house … To the left of the main entrance there’s a passage way that leads to the four ground floor bedrooms:
One large master bedroom with en suite shower, bathroom and a dressing area. Two twin bedrooms and one double all share the second full bathroom.
All the bedrooms have the same contemporary, light appeal with painted cement built-in beds and headboards, built-in curtained wardrobes with cushions and curtains giving a splash of colour.

Spain distilled

Ronda is one of the most beautiful and visited cities in Spain. History, culture, architecture all come together for a totally Spanish experience.

To the west of the front terrace, a stone and terracotta pathway, with a few steps, leads you through sedate herb gardens toward the pool area. And oh what a pool this is! Not only is there the panoramic view, but with pomegranate, lavender, jasmine, creeping rosemary all around, the aromatic fragrance is a delight. Alongside the pool is a covered seating area to enjoy breakfast, lunch or dinner in the shade while enjoying the scenery. The pool shower is discreetly hidden behind a century-old olive tree.

The views from the front terrace, stretching along the front of the house are also breathtaking; a vast, undulating tapestry of varying earth colours and shades of green, speckled with tall black cypresses, groves of silver-green olive trees and vineyards.

The front terrace is the perfect place to relax and enjoy the view, with a glass of wine from the Descalzos Viejos winery. Descalzos Viejos is certainly a unique winery, its sprawling vineyards grow around El Tajo gorge and it is just a short walk from this holiday home.

Ronda towers on high, balancing on the edge of the spectacular, sheer cliffs of the gorge, El Tajo, that splits the ancient mountain town into two sections: the old Moorish area, La Ciudad, and the ‘new’ (circa 1485!) town, El Mercadillo. Spanning the gorge is the triple-arched, centuries-old stone bridge Puente Nuevo which was completed in 1793. The Puente Nuevo is Ronda’s most famous landmark, linking the old and new districts. Its central, skyward-soaring Romanesque arch is framed by gigantic stone foundations.

"I owe you 100 figs. Enjoyed the Croquet, bit challenging while sprinklers were working. Wonderful cooling by the pool in the heat of the day. Looking forward to return to explore again in the spring."

"My wife and I got married in Gibraltar and our families used the finca as a base for our travel throughout Andalusia. The only regret we have is not spending more time exploring the property and Ronda. The property is located an awesome area with an impressive backdrop of the surrounding land and Tajo. We will be back!"
