ZC12 Great place to stay in Montecorto

Málaga, Ronda Mountains, Montecorto

Intimate, enjoyable, a great place to stay

Looking out to a heavenly panorama of mountain, hill and wooded slopes, this is an intimate, friendly holiday home, a great place to stay ...

Private and very peaceful, it looks out from the forest to a majestic panorama of mountain, hill and wooded slopes.

At the very top of the village of Montecorto and looking out from the forest to a heavenly panorama of mountain, hill and wooded slopes, this is an intimate, enjoyable and friendly house, a great place to stay.

Built on several levels, it climbs up the mountainside above the village. From this lofty perch the views across to the Grazalema mountains are amazing!

Private and very peaceful, one enters to a cobbled patio and garden with a grand palm tree and the wonderful views.

The house has featured in several interior design magazines. There’s something very satisfying in the way that all the rooms and outdoor spaces interlink as an organic whole.

Decorated in Andalusian/Moroccan style it is simple, yet stylish and southern, beautifully evoking the region’s Moorish past.

A home from home

Decorated with tender loving care in authentic Andalusian / Moroccan style, it is warm, welcoming and well furnished.

holiday_villa_andalucia_spain_zc12_7

An open hearth, whitewashed beams and terracotta tiles impart an authentic Andaluz flavour whilst warm colour washes, bright textiles and rugs collected in Asia, Africa and South America add spice and colour.

It’s a real home-from-home – warm, welcoming and well furnished. The sitting room has French windows which open to the terraces (part shaded, part open) and the swimming pool below, with that wonderful view as a constant backdrop. It also houses an extensive collection of books on Spain, a CD player and a good selection of music. There is a computer too, (with 24 hour internet connection).

Alongside is the dining room which comfortably seats eight, opening through to the fully equipped kitchen (which also has it’s own sitting area on a lower level).

French windows open from the living room to a covered patio, furnished with comfortable armchairs and sofas and a broad table. It’s the kind of place you could spend hours, enjoying meals, reading, sipping cold drinks …

Sweet dreams

Bedrooms have the same colourful feel: linen is top of the range, mattresses too, and all are big on space.

holiday_villa_andalucia_spain_zc12_4

Upstairs are three spacious bedrooms, each with en-suite bathrooms. One also has a small living room annexe.

All of the bedrooms have top-of-the-range mattresses, excellent linen and attractive bathrooms. They all look out to the Sierra de Grazalema. There are more books, bright bedspreads and kilims. Each bedroom is also equipped with a CD player of its own:

“Casablanca” is a double, reached by a steep wooden staircase. It has a gorgeous view and its own small sitting room. The sitting room is a real eagle’s nest, decorated in a warm ochre wash. There is loads of hanging space in the wardrobe and tasteful lighting.

“Cadiz”, in a separate wing, is the highest room in the house and is a twin. It has windows on three sides so is a really light room. There are framed black & white photographs and attractive applique lamps.

“Cuzco”, in the same wing, is another spacious twin room. It too has windows on all three sides and has access to an almond-shaded terrace and from there, down to the pool.

“Cueva” is the fourth bedroom, located in a separate annexe of the house well away from other rooms. It is a double and has been decorated with framed prints from Morocco. It has access out to the terraces by the pool.

Almond, olive and orange trees, bamboo, jasmine, roses, bougainvillea, honeysuckle and an enormous palm tree. Plum and pomegranate too.

With the exception of “Cueva” which has a shower only, all the en-suite bathrooms have both a shower and a bath. Sinks are marble topped with masses of space for toiletries and there is attractive ceramic tiling and retro-style taps.

The pressure in the showers is excellent and there is plenty of hot water. There are heated towel rails. As well as a large overhead shower rose there is an additional ‘telephone’ shower as well, of course, as a large bath tub.

The house is surrounded by a mature garden where a beautiful round swimming pool has been sculpted into the terraced hillside. There are almond, olive and orange trees, bamboo, jasmine, roses, bougainvillea, honeysuckle and an enormous palm tree. Plum, palm and pomegranate too. It’s delightful!

And although you are at the very top of the small village you see no other buildings, only the beautiful, craggy peaks of the distant mountains.

The best of both worlds

You can stroll down to the village shops and bars but, at the same time, you really feel away from it all here.

holiday_villa_andalucia_spain_zc12_9

So you have the best of both worlds here: easy access to the village shops and bars yet, at the same time, you really feel away from it all.

The house feels much more like a home than a rental property. There is an incredible collection of books on Spain as well as masses of novels and other literature. The owner lived here for many years and has decorated the house with a great deal of tender loving care.

Montecorto is a little village of 950 people, with a couple of bar / restaurants, an easy pace of life and, of course, plenty of Andalusian good nature and bonhomie. There is a bank, chemists, post office, doctor’s surgery and shops where you can buy most essentials.

In Ronda (just 20 minutes away) there are a number of larger supermarkets as well as other interesting shops and, of course, masses of excellent restaurants. A short drive away, in Zahara, is the excellent ‘Al Lago’ restaurant.

A great place to stay

"We had a wonderful holiday in Montecorto. The villa was seductive, charming, relaxing and very beautiful. A very BIG thank you!"

Quite apart from the wonderful countryside all around and the natural treasure-trove of the nearby National Park, it’s also an ideal location for exploring much of the best that Andalucía has to offer. Apart from Ronda, of course, Grazalema and the other pueblos blancos of Cádiz province are close at hand, and it’s not so far, either to Sevilla, Gibraltar and the wonderful beaches of both the Atlantic coast and the Mediterranean Sea.

Delightful local lady, Paqui, looks after the house. Unless you prefer not to be disturbed, she cleans, irons and keeps everything neat and tidy for you, every weekday (two hours daily). And not least of the many attractions here are “Paqui’s raciones”, authentic Spanish tapas, which you can order in the mornings (Mondays to Fridays) and she will have them ready for you, freshly cooked and delicious, later in the day.

She can also cook a full 3 course meal (minimum 4 people) which will be served to you at your candlelit dining table. Paqui uses organically grown vegetables from her husband’s vegetable plot and prepares delicious soups as well as meat and fish dishes.

She will serve you at dinner and clean up once coffee has been served in the sitting room or beneath the stars on the terrace.

All in all, an exceptional holiday property. As confirmed by client comments such as, “We had a wonderful holiday in Montecorto. The villa was seductive, charming, relaxing and very beautiful. A very BIG thank you!”
