ZC48 In open countryside, Tarifa rental holiday

Cádiz, Costa de la Luz, Tarifa

In the land of sun, fun and deep blue waters

This 200 year old shepherd's dwelling near Tarifa is now a comfortable, rustic home, a great base for enjoying the wonderfully wild coastline at the southern-most tip of Europe ...

Part of a 200 year old farmhouse, it has been sympathetically restored to create an attractive, yet still authentically rustic, holiday home.

Tarifa rental holiday porche

This property is one wing of a 200 year old farmhouse which has been restored to create an attractive, yet still authentically rustic, holiday home. With character and charm, it’s a fun place to stay.

And its situation, down the road from Tarifa, overlooking the Natural Park of Alcornocales and just five minutes drive from two of the most beautiful beaches on the Costa de la Luz, makes this a very popular destination.

Located in a small hamlet on a hillside, the house has a privileged position in the heart of the Natural Park “El Estrecho”. The views of the surrounding countryside, the Atlantic Ocean and beyond to the African coast, are splendid.

Just a few minutes drive from the main coastal highway, an unpaved road of 300 metres leads up to the property. By car it’s just seven minutes from here to Tarifa, Europe’s capital city of sun, fun and surf.

Wide, sweeping bays

Within five minutes you can be on either one of two of the most beautiful beaches anywhere in Spain, Punta Paloma and Bologna.

To one side of the property, just a few minutes away, lies the beach of Bologna, with its fascinating Roman ruins. On the other side of the rocky outcrop which rises up behind the farmhouse is the beach of Tarifa’s Punta Paloma with it’s enormous sand dunes.

Both are renown for their clear blue waters and wide, golden beaches.

They are both unspoiled, virgin beaches – there are none of the trappings you will find on a “Marbella-type” beach, no sunloungers to hire or high rise developments rising up behind them.

Just magnificent, high sand dunes, many of them thickly forested with pine – and fantastic views over the wide, sweeping bays to Morocco.

Bring your towel, picnic and sunscreen and you are away!

There are endless opportunities to explore and enjoy the rolling countryside and unforgettable seascapes.

And these are just two of the fabulous beaches on this wonderfully wild coastline on the southern-most tip of Europe, where the Mediterranean meets the Atlantic Ocean.

As famous for bird watching as surfing, there are endless opportunities to explore the rolling countryside and unforgettable seascapes: mountain-biking, scuba-diving, climbing, surfing, tennis, horse-riding, fishing, hang-gliding and, newest of all, kite surfing … to name but a few.

A small, walled garden leads up to the villa which, although adjoining the other wing of the property (which is also rented as a holiday villa), is completely self-contained and private.

Privacy is ensured by the two metre high, natural stone wall which divides the two holiday properties.

Swim with the stars

Night lighting around the terrace and pool makes this an equally inviting place to be once the sun has gone down.

A shaded, furnished terrace runs along the front of the property and continues around the side of the building, where the swimming pool (8 m x 4 m) is also located. From here the views are to the distant hills of the the Natural Park of Alcornocales.

Night lighting around the terrace and pool makes this an equally inviting place to be once the sun has gone down.

One enters to an attractively furnished living room, with the kitchen at the rear and a dining area to the side.

Comfy sofas are casually arranged around an open fireplace and there’s satellite TV, DVD and music equipment to keep you entertained.

The kitchen area is well equipped with a fridge/freezer, dishwasher, microwave, oven and all necessary kitchenware.

Casual and relaxing

It's a charming house under high, beamed and cane ceilings. Rustic throughout but cosy and comfortable.

It’s all nicely casual and relaxed under it’s high beamed and cane ceiling.

Large windows along the front look out to the rolling hills beyond, others to the pool area at the side.

On this ground floor there is also an attractive and charmingly rustic bathroom, with one of the biggest bath tubs imaginable. Quite splendid!

An attractively tiled stairway leads up to the three bedrooms (they are all double-bedded) and a second small bathroom (it has a shower but no bathtub) on the first floor.

All three are equipped with mosquito nets and radiators and enjoy the same standard of decoration as downstairs, with traditional beamed ceilings, terracotta floors, hand painted tiles and solid hard wood furniture.

It's a charming house under high, beamed and cane ceilings. Rustic throughout but cosy and comfortable.

Comfortable and charming as the house is, this is a part of Andalucía which just cries out to be explored and enjoyed.

There’s mile upon mile of unspoilt beaches on the Costa de la Luz. Duty free shopping, the caves and history of Gibraltar are 45 minutes away, as is Morocco. Fast ferries cross regularly from Tarifa, and a day trip to Tangiers will take you to a different world.

There are wonderfully scenic drives to the historic towns of Ronda, Jerez, Cádiz and Sevilla. Golf, riding, walking, good restaurants et al.

And, of course, there’s Tarifa, a fun little town, now a mecca for wind and kite surfers but still retaining its small town character and rich history.

It’s position at the southern tip of Europe, the point that not only separates Europe from Africa but also the Mediterranean Sea from the Atlantic Ocean gives it a unique micro climate. It is always mild here but, remember, it can also be windy …

Along with windsurfing and diving, kite surfing is now extremely popular here and it isn’t unusual to see 250 kites in the sea and on the beach in summer … an amazing sight. There are many nature related activities to enjoy too, such as horse riding, mountain biking, rock climbing, bird watching, trekking and whale watching.

Always lively and entertaining, there’s something special about Tarifa.
