Built around a Japanese garden patio, this villa has style! With its minimalist elegance, light and space, it's a gem amid glorious countryside ...
Light and bright
Light and bright
This very stylish villa offers comfort and privacy amidst glorious natural beauty. Constructed in 2005 to exacting standards, its design is both thoroughly modern and splendidly inspirational.
It is built around an internal Japanese garden, which features running water and is surrounded by glass on all sides, with sliding doors opening through from both the reception room and from the huge sitting room.
Marvellously light and open throughout, it’s a gem of a house!
A little country lane winds gently down the hill from the Gaucín to Ronda road, descending deep into the beautiful and very serene Guadiaro Valley.
This is a wonderful part of rural Andalucía, between the Alcornocales Natural Park and the Sierra de Grazalema Natural Park, with the spectacular backdrop of the Serranía de Ronda mountains all around.
Spectacular setting
Deep within the forested hillsides of a 500 acre private estate and completely private, all around is joyous countryside and magnificent scenery.
Deep in these gloriously forested hillsides, a kilometre from the little village of La Cañada del Real Tesoro (also known as Estacion de Cortes, where the wonderfully scenic Ronda-Algeciras railway stops), you will find the entrance to this superb estate. It comprises more than 200 hectares (500 acres) of joyous countryside, rich in flora, wildlife and stunning beauty.
It’s a great location with plenty to explore and enjoy all around. Organic vegetable gardens, fruit, walnut and ancient oak trees, little streams and waterfalls, this is the Spanish landscape at its best.
Everywhere the views are magnificent, with the attractive pueblo of Cortes de la Frontera glistening white on the other side of the valley, the Sierra de Libar rising up to 2,100 metres beyond. Pretty Gaucín is a lovely 20 minute drive away.
The surrounding terrain of the estate itself and the Sierra de Grazalema beyond provide plenty of opportunities for lovely walks amid spectacular scenery.
Contemporary elegance
Tastefully furnished and decorated, the uncluttered design immediately invites relaxation.
Befitting such a spectacular location, this is a villa with a very relaxing feel to it. At its heart is the central patio garden with a water feature and walls painted in rich ochre.
The house is built around this central garden on each of its four sides, with huge glass doors (opening through to the patio and also to the pool on the other side of the house) creating a wonderful feeling of light and space.
The flowing design of the villa and its modern elegance is really special.
The clean design lines of the reception room immediately invite relaxation. Here there is a huge coffee table and two luxurious armchairs looking onto the garden and beyond to the ample living room on the other side. The view is continuous, through the patio garden, to the living room,
to the exterior garden, to the elegant swimming pool and, beyond, to the magnificent countryside all around..
These themes of serenity and uncluttered, minimalist elegance are continued in the tastefully furnished and decorated living room.
There are two sofas, with the central space between them occupied by a low table and large cushions on the floor. It’s a very relaxing room, with sliding glass doors on two sides. On one side, of course, it looks through to the central patio; on the other to the bathing terrace and the infinity pool with the mountains behind. The swimming pool appears to flow directly onto the natural parkland all around!
The fully equipped open-plan kitchen /dining room is equally swish and modern in style, a space where you can create meals and dine with equal panache. The stylish dining table comfortably seats six.
A unique property
The swish and modern 'Japanese' theme continues throughout the house to create a very special ambience.
The three substantial bedrooms are individually decorated, using warm modern fabrics and original artwork. All have en-suite bathrooms and each of them has doors which open out, either to the garden or to the pool area.
All in all, a property with flair and distinction, one which offers a truly original holiday experience.
Basic provisions can be purchased in La Cañada del Real Tesoro, just four kilometres away. Cortes de la Frontera, nine kilometres away, has a greater range of bars and restaurants and is worth a visit.
The charming and unspoilt village of Gaucín is fifteen minutes by car, with its excellent selection of restaurants, tapas bars, tennis courts and, of course, all the customary local traditions of an Andalusian ‘pueblo’.
Unhindered views
With the mountains rising up beyond, the infinity edged pool offers unrivalled views over the surrounding countryside.
There are several excellent day-trip destinations: to the historic towns of Ronda, Jerez de la Frontera and Cádiz, each of them offering good shopping and fine restaurants as well as lots of history and architecture of great beauty. Each has its own unique atmosphere.
Or, head up north, passing Ronda on your way, to Sevilla, the capital of everything Andaluz. It is impossible not to be captivated by its exuberant atmosphere: stylish, confident, ancient and proud, yet also convivial, intimate and fun-loving. If you don’t know what alegría means, Sevilla is the place to learn!
There are charming villages too, Arcos de la Frontera, Grazalema and Jimena de la Frontera to name but a few.
For those who want a day on the beach, Mediterranean resorts are just an hour’s drive to the south while the white Atlantic beaches of the Costa de la Luz are ninety minutes away.
A day out
Magnificent mountain scenery, Mediterranean beaches and some of Andalucía's most delightful towns and villages are all easy day trips from here.
And for something a little out of the ordinary, why not explore a little of Andalucía on the fabulous train which stops at nearby Estacion de Cortes? Built by the British in the 1890’s to enable Gibraltar’s garrison officers to escape into the countryside from the coastline’s summer heat, it passes through stunning scenery and historic sites, not to mention a few suitable watering holes en route!
One of Europe’s great short rail journeys, this 50-mile stretch through the Ronda mountains runs through a landscape which offers constantly plunging and spectacular views. The single track line is so steep (by rail standards) that sand must be deposited onto the rails when wet to avoid slippage.
There are four trains running daily between Algeciras on the coast up to Ronda, stopping at little hilltown pueblos – San Roque, Castellar, Jimena, Gaucin, Cortes and Benaojan – along the way.
It’s a remarkable and wonderful way to see some of Andalucía’s best and most dramatic countryside.
Whichever direction you head off to, one thing is for sure: you will be returning to one of the most enjoyable, interesting and relaxing holiday properties in Spain.

"Guided by the house manager along a 3,5 km unpaved road we discovered this beautiful, modern villa, hidden between the walnut trees in the Serrania. We particularly appreciated the natural ventilation of the house. Thanks to the central patio there was a good air circulation. We also loved the calmness of the impressive surrounding landscape and our daily visit by the peacock (who we named Peter). Beautiful routes and amazing landscapes, white villages and Ronda. "

"We’ve had a lovely, relaxing two weeks, made all the more enjoyable by the donkey who paid us many visits, sometimes with his horse friends! Very sad to be leaving

"Great villa in between trees and mountains. We loved the daily visit of a peacock (which we named ‘Pavo’) and the regular visit of horses"
